Alexander Rasmussen (b. 1988, St. Catharines, Ontario) is a Canadian painter whose practice explores the physical and perceptual possibilities of painting through gesture, material, colour, and process. Rasmussen’s paintings have been exhibited internationally, including at POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair, and are held in private collections in Canada, the United States, Europe, and South America. His work has received critical attention from writers including David Aurandt and Gary Michael Dault. Working between abstraction and material experimentation, Rasmussen builds paintings through layers of staining, poured and brushed paint, erasure, accumulation, and interruption. The resulting surfaces retain evidence of their making while resisting a fixed or singular reading.

Rasmussen is represented by Christopher Cutts Gallery in Toronto.
